NAME: Hilda Valentine Goneril
CANON: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
CANON POINT: Verdant Wind (Golden Deer route), post-ending
AGE: 23
BACKGROUND: Hilda-specific Stuff | Overall Game Timeline | Verdant Wind Timeline | Game Synopsis
PERSONALITY:
At first glance, Hilda... is lazy! Good God, is she lazy. Give her a task to take care of and she will find a way to weasel out of it, because here's the thing: Hilda is lazy mainly because Hilda was—is—spoiled. As the second child from a relatively influential noble family, Hilda isn't expected to do a darn thing; her family's expectations rest squarely on the shoulders of her extremely accomplished older brother, and thus Hilda is allowed to just... exist? To do as she pleases, when she pleases, because her older brother is dependable enough for, like, five people—and she just so happens to be the apple of his eye, so. People who want to win favor with him, or with her family as a whole, tend to hand her things on a silver platter, and she is not complaining.
But even if her family doesn't come into play, people still seem to go out of their way to help her... because Hilda is so charming as to be manipulative. Oh, not all of that is on purpose; she is, after all, a pink-haired girl who's barely over five feet tall, so there's never a shortage of people (men, mainly) eager to jump in a help her carry something heavy, etc, but Hilda never discourages them—and Hilda takes full advantage of any opportunity to play up her perceived ~weakness~. Despite the fact that she can throw an axe around like it's nothin', she's quick to remind anyone in her general vicinity that she's a delicate flower who would do better cheering from the sidelines than actually working. Gross!
Plus she's also halfway decent at reading others? She's good at finding out what motivates the people around her. Sometimes it's as simple as giving someone an honest compliment, massaging their ego a bit in order to spurn them into doing this, that, or the other for her; other times it's as complicated as, say, casually reminding Lorenz that she writes many letters to her brother, so if Lorenz picked up her slack during training, she would be sure to slip in a few lines about how noble and hard-working he is. And maybe that's underhanded! Maybe that is, again, rather manipulative of Hilda, but she honestly sees it as more of a... give-and-take type of scenario. She loves when others help her out, yes, but she doesn't expect them to do it for free; she's more than willing to trade favors... or just gas people up until they feel really, really good about themselves and/or their abilities. There's no harm in that, she thinks, because everyone deserves to feel good about themselves! She is providing the world an essential service.
And that's just it: Hilda is genuinely friendly? Hilda genuinely cares for those around her, because even when she's drowning someone in compliments, she only says things she absolutely means. She wants others to know they've done a good job, or that they're appreciated, because it makes them happy—and because she, herself, knows what it's like to go without genuine compliments. People hit on her, sure, or flatter her in an attempt to get closer to her brother, but as she tells Caspar when he gives her a sincere compliment in their support, "I've gotten scolds aplenty, but compliments I'm not accustomed to." People outside her family tell her what they think she wants to hear; people within her family (gently) scold her, trying to encourage her to put in a bit more effort, but people who appreciate her for her are rarer than one might think.
When someone does appreciate her, though, there is surprisingly little this lazy woman won't do for them. When Hilda attempted to pawn off her chores on Marianne, only to find that Marianne made an, ah, even larger mess for herself, Hilda didn't leave her to it; Hilda stepped in and did the bulk of the work herself, presumably to save herself a scolding—but also to help, because Hilda could tell that Marianne needed it. She's also fiercely loyal to Claude, the leader of the Leicester Alliance and one of her closest friends; like, she sticks by his side throughout the war, refusing to run even when he tells her to (albeit in other routes). When push comes to shove? When those she cares for need her? No matter how big or small the task, Hilda will come through.
Which involves Hilda grappling with what is perhaps her biggest weakness: her fear of disappointing others. See, so much of her laziness can be traced back to this? She admits to Byleth that, after spending years watching people pile their expectations on her older brother, she's wary of taking on any sort of responsibility because she doesn't want to let anyone down. "People force their expectations on you, and then if you fail they look so... disappointed," she says, which is unacceptable to her. She likes being liked; she'd rather make the people around her smile via her compliments than frown because she hurt them in some way, so! While she will push past this when the need arises, it's still something that lingers in the back of her mind—and sends her charming others into doing the work for her.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
- Hilda bears a Minor Crest of Goneril, which is... something in her blood? The game never explains it, honestly, but she was born with it; it's just an innate ability that, in the game, sometimes prevents enemies from performing counterattacks. It also allows her to wield her family's relic, the axe Freikugel, but more on that below!
- She has a ~defining ability~ known as Advocate, which "boosts the damage output of nearby male allied units." In RP terms, I suppose this means she'll give the boys something to fight for, either by playing up how weak she is or, like, flirting with them. God help them.
- She's quite skilled with an axe! She's halfway decent with a lance! She's used to wearing/fighting in heavy armor, although she doesn't necessarily like it. She's also good with flying mounts, especially wyverns.
- This is not combat-related, BUT! Hilda is well-known to be very crafty! She enjoys making jewelry/accessories/what have you out of whatever she finds in the world, and people comment on how well-made and fashionable they are. She's a DIY queen with a taste for the finer things in life, and if she can't buy, she will CRAFT.
- Friekugel, which is a huge axe that can only be wielded by those bearing the Crest of Goneril. She can smack stuff with it, as one would expect, but she can also do a nifty special attack that's especially effective against dragons? The chances of her using this in Prisma are so low, but. It's a thing.
- The clothes on her back + some assorted pieces of jewelry (some earrings, a necklace or two). She must look cute at all times.
MOONBLESSING: Iris, baybee.
